How is the SPK B/C/D folding crane different? Choose the right reach for the job
When researching the Palfinger SPK series folding cranes, many customers wonder why the same model number (for example, SPK8500) but there is a B version, a C version — the price and parameters are markedly different.
The last letter is the number of hydraulic burners
Symbols B, C, D indicate the number of hydraulic extensions of the crane:
- B = 3 needles
- C = 4 burners
- D = 5 needles
The more crane burn, the longer reach, but accompanied by heavier cranes, higher prices and requiring a more suitable vehicle chassis.
# Why it's important to buy
Many customers only look at the lifting load (for example 3.3 tons or 6.3 tons) and forget the actual reach needed for the work. Two vehicles with the same lifting load but different burning need will serve two different types of work:
- ** Short reach (B):** suitable for loading and unloading right next to the car body, works with narrow space, goods do not need to reach far.
- Long reach (C, D): suitable for buildings with obstacles, need to bring goods through the fence, to a high floor, or unload remotely without vehicles being able to approach the location of the goods.
Tips for choosing
Do not just ask "how many tons of load", describe **the actual work ** — the type of goods, the distance to reach, the operation space — for advice on the right type of crane, avoid buying excess capacity or lack of reach when operating.
