5 Signs Your Knuckle Boom Crane Needs Maintenance Now
Knuckle-boom cranes work under heavy loads and harsh conditions every day. That's why regular maintenance plays a key role in keeping performance up, ensuring safety, and extending the equipment's service life.
Alongside the regular maintenance schedule, operators should also proactively check for these warning signs:

01. Hydraulic oil leaks 💧
Oil leaking from hoses, fittings, cylinders or hydraulic assemblies is a sign that needs immediate attention. A leak can lower system pressure and affect the crane's lifting capacity.
02. Slow or jerky operation
If the boom lifts, lowers, slews, or extends/retracts more slowly than normal, or moves unevenly or jerkily, the hydraulic system and related components should be checked.

03. Unusual noise or vibration 🔧
Strange sounds, knocking, or strong vibration during operation can signal insufficient lubrication, worn or loose parts, or another mechanical issue.
04. Pins, bolts and joints showing signs of wear
Regularly inspect pins, bushings, bolts, joints and connection points. If you find looseness, wear, increased play, cracks or deformation, address it before continuing to work under heavy load.

05. Control system or safety devices showing faults ⚠️
An unresponsive control lever, a faulty sensor, a warning device that isn't working, or any abnormal safety function all call for a prompt check.
Don't wait until the crane breaks down to service it
Catching small warning signs early can help prevent major breakdowns, reduce downtime, and keep operations safe.
If your PALFINGER crane shows any of these signs, proactively check it and contact VIPEC's technical team for advice and proper servicing.
